McPhail Named SAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. – After leading their respective teams to a pair of conference victories, Carson-Newman forward Antoine Davis and Catawba center Antoinette McPhail have been named the SAC Basketball Players of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Davis earned men’s Player of the Week honors for the second time this season after averaging 22 points and five rebounds in Carson-Newman’s wins over Tusculum and Newberry.
The junior opened his week by scoring 17 points on Wednesday in a 67-56 win at Tusculum, then went for 27 points and seven boards on Saturday as the Eagles handled Newberry, 98-76.
Davis shot 57.7-percent from the field in the two games and added five assists, two steals and a block. He currently ranks second in the SAC in scoring at 19.7 points per game.
McPhail led the Catawba women to home wins over Brevard and Tusculum by averaging 17.5 points and eight rebounds. She made an efficient 60-percent of her shots in the two victories.
McPhail started her week by scoring 15 points -- on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor and a perfect 4-of-4 from the foul line -- in Catawba’s 64-46 win over Brevard. She just missed a double-double in the game, finishing with nine rebounds. The junior then added 20 points and seven boards on Saturday as the Indians beat Tusculum, 65-56.
McPhail currently has the conference’s third-highest rebounding average at 9.2 per game for Catawba, which is off to a 3-1 start in league games.
