SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba, ranked 13th in NCAA II, continued its strong season start with an 8-1 win over visiting Pfeiffer in baseball action on Saturday afternoon at Newman Park.  The Indians improve to 2-0, while Pfeiffer falls to 0-2 in the young season.  Catawba was led by pitcher John Tuttle (Kannapolis, NC/A.L. Brown), who tossed seven strong innings including six strikeouts.

Pfeiffer got on the board first with back-to-back two-out doubles by Jon Gray and Matt Wade.  That would mark the only run given up by Tuttle and the Indians.  The Indians answered in their half of the first.  Paul Kronenfeld (Greensboro, NC/Woodbury Forest HS/Georgia Tech) jump started Catawba with a three-run homer.

The Indians added one run in the fourth and four in the fifth.  Keaton Hawks (Lexington, NC/E. Davidson HS) recorded two hits in the game including a double and triple and reached base a third time on a hit-by-pitch.  Transfer Cameron Cockman (Pleasant Garden, NC/SE Guilford HS/UNC Wilmington) added two hits of his own.

Catawba recorded all eight runs against freshman Tyler Ring, who pitched just four and two-third innings.  Ring gave up 7 hits and three walks while recording two strikeouts.  Hunter Jobe, Keith Little and Tyler Summers stymied the Catawba offense over the final three innings.

Tuttle posted the win for the Indians.  He allowed just four hits over his seven frames and walked none.  Sean Grant (Statesville, NC/W. Iredell HS) and Graham Lawing (Huntersville, NC/NW Cabarrus/Wilkes CC) each threw an inning of shutout ball to finish off the Falcons.

Catawba returns to action against Tusculum, playing a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 1 pm.
