SALISBURY, NC -- Anderson guard Chandler Hash scored 38 points to lead the visiting Trojans to an 80-64 win over Catawba in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Goodman Gym. The Trojans improve to 14-6 overall and 10-2 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 7-13 and 4-8.
Hash piled up his total on 10-of-15 shooting, including 6-of-9 three-pointers. He was a perfect 12-for-12 at the line, grabbed a rebound, handed out two assists, blocked two shots and had a steal. Denzail Jones joined him double figures with 14 points.
Lee Martin (Mt. Airy, NC/N. Surry HS/Hargrave) and Vismantas Marijosius (Kedainiai, LITHUANIA/North Hills Christian) each scored a dozen for Catawba. Elon Edwards (Greenville, NC/Rose HS) had 11 points and Tyrece Little (Greenville, NC/Rose HS) pulled down 13 rebounds.
The teams were tied at the half, 36-all. The Indians shot 54% to help keep pace, but their shooting touch fell apart in the second half as Catawba made just 29% as Anderson began to pull away.
Hash hit a three-pointer at the 14:16 mark of the second half which started a 6-0 Trojan run that pushed their lead to 53-44. He added four throws following a Catawba foul and technical to sent Anderson up by 16 at 63-47 with 7:29 remaining. Catawba could only get within 11 points after that.
Catawba raced to an 11-2 lead in the opening minutes, but Anderson rallied and went up 28-22 after a three-pointer by Hash with six minutes left in the half. Catawba retook the lead on a three-pointer by Martin, but Jones tied it at the break on a three-point play with two seconds remaining.
The Indians host rival Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Goodman Gym.
