Six-Run Frame Helps Baseball Top Pfeiffer 10-2
ASHEBORO, NC – Catawba pounded out 10 hits en route to a 10-2 win over Pfeiffer in baseball action on Sunday afternoon at McCrary Park. The sixth-ranked Catawba Indians improve to 8-0, while the Falcons fall to 0-7.
Paul Kronenfeld (Greensboro, NC/Woodberry Forest HS/Georgia Tech) had three hits and drove in the game’s first run to give Catawba a quick lead in the bottom of the first. The Indians added a second run in the opening frame on a ground ball by Garrett Furr (Gold Hill, NC/Mt. Pleasant HS) that plated Ethan Satterfield (Madison, NC/McMichael HS).
Catawba broke the game open in the fourth with a six-run inning. Keaton Hawks (Lexington, NC/C. Davidson HS) connected on a three-run homer and Furr doubled home a couple of runs. Pfeiffer got on the board in the sixth with a two-run homer from Cole McGraw, but Catawba got those runs right back as Chris Dula (Troutman, NC/S. Iredell HS) singled home a run and Cameron Beard (Conover, NC/Bunker Hill HS) forced a man home when he was hit by a pitch.
Dula joined Kronenfeld with a multi-hit day, adding a double to start the big fourth inning. Kronenfeld also doubled for the Indians. Furr and Hawks each had three RBI. Matt Wade picked up two of the seven hits by the Falcons.
Cameron Cochman (Pleasant Garden, NC/SE Guilford HS/UNC Wilmington) tossed seven innings to improve to 2-0 on the year. He allowed the two runs six hits and fanned four. Ethan Greene took the loss Pfeiffer, allowing eight runs over his four innings of work.
Catawba will get back to action when the Indians open conference play, hosting Wingate at Newman Park for a three-game series that begins on Friday at 6 p.m. The teams are slated for a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
