Tennis Teams Take Wins Over Lees-McRae

SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba claimed wins over visiting Lees-McRae in both men's and women's tennis action on Friday afternoon at the Johnson Tennis Center.  The Catawba men claimed an 8-1 victory, while the women posted a 7-2 win.  The Catawba Indian men improve to 5-2, while the women are 6-1. 

The Catawba men swept the doubles to take a commanding 3-0 lead and completed the win with five singles victories.  Alex Macdonald (Lowen Hit, NEW ZEALAND/Hutt International), Matthew Nicholson (Chawara, ZIMBABWE/Lomabundi), Mitchell McDonald (Wellington, NEW Zealand/Papaparaumu), Jack Mordey (Leighton Buzzard, ENGLAND/Tring) and Aaron Vanhorenbeck (Olsmar, FL/East Lake HS) all won in both singles and doubles for Catawba.

The Catawba women picked up two doubles wins and like the men claimed five singles wins.  Lauren Sledd (Roanoke, VA/Cave Spring HS), Olivia Myers (Lexington, NC/W. Davidson HS) and Andrea Bell (Franklin, NC/Franklin HS) were winners for the women in both singles and doubles.
