Lomascolo Named SAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week
ROCK HILL, SC -- Catawba starting pitcher Nick Lomascolo (Mooresville, NC/Lake Norman HS) and Lincoln Memorial second baseman Andre Rodriguez have been selected as the SAC baseball weekly award winners after leading their teams to series victories in the first weekend of league play. It was announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Lomascolo continued his dominant start to the 2013 season by throwing 7.2 scoreless innings in a 1-0 Catawba win over Wingate on Friday in both teams’ conference openers. He allowed just four hits – and just one for extra-bases- in the game while striking out 10.
The performance lowered Lomascolo’s ERA to a SAC-best 0.44. He leads the league in strikeouts with 27 and is tied for first in wins with three. Opponents are hitting just .167 against the lefty this year.
Rodriguez, the SAC Player of the Week, hit .444 last week as LMU went 3-1 overall, including a 2-1 series win over conference-foe Anderson. He recorded multiple hits in two of the games – going 4-for-5 on Friday in a 9-7 setback to AU and 2-for-5 in an 11-2 win on Saturday against the Trojans.
The senior recorded two doubles, a triple and eight RBI on the week, and also scored four runs. He had an on-base percentage of .474 and slugged .667 in the four games.
