SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba got five goals from John Scheich (Waxhaw, NC/Weddington HS) and claimed a 14-10 win over visiting Mount Olive in men's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon at Shuford Stadium.  The Catawba Indians improve to 2-0, while the Trojans fall to 1-1.

The Trojans grabbed the early lead, getting goals from Blake Bennett and Matt Shields to lead 2-0 after five minutes.  The Indians would go on a five-goal spurt to lead 5-3 after a quarter.  Scheich scored three straight in the run which came over the final 5:19 of the period.  His three tallies came within a 1:05 span.

Catawba led 8-6 at the break, but Mount Olive started the second half like the first and pulled even after five minutes on goals by Daniel Shields and Matt Shields.  A minute after surrendering the tying goal Matt Symes (Coquitlam, BC, CANADA/Centennial HS) gave Catawba the lead for good.

The Symes goal started a run of four straight for the Indians, who scored six of the next seven goals.  Symes and Adam Hebert (Charlotte, NC/Charlotte Catholic HS) each had a pair of goals for Catawba.  Matt Shields had three goals for the Trojans.  Daniel Shields had two goals and four assists, while Bennett also tallied two goals.

The Indians held a slight 42-41 edge in shots with goalie Pete Wesselman (Charlotte, NC/Providence HS/Stevenson) stopping 20 shots.  Rocky Bowman made 10 saves for Mount Olive.  Catawba won 16-of-27 face-off with Daniel Rew (Forest Hill, MD/Bel Air HS) winning 10-of-15.  Spencer Stoltz (Chapel Hill, NC/Chapel Hill HS/Bellarmine) caused three turnovers.

Catawba will next host nationally-ranked Pfeiffer on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
