Baseball Gets Back Into Win Column at Anderson

ANDERSON, SC -- Garrett Furr (Gold Hill, NC/Mt. Pleasant HS) drove in four runs to lead 26th-ranked Catawba to a 10-3 win over host Anderson in South Atlantic Conference baseball action on Friday night at Memorial Stadium.  The Catawba Indians improve to 11-4 overall and 3-4 in the SAC, while the Trojans 5-13 and 1-6.

The Indians jumped out quickly with three runs in the first and three more in the second.  Furr had a RBI in each three-run outburst, while Craig Brooks (Monroe, NC/Parkwood HS) capped the third with a two-run homer.

Furr added a two-run homer of his own fifth as Catawba stretch its lead to 8-0.  Anderson picked up single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings before Nick Lomascolo (Mooresville, NC/Lake Norman HS) with the big lead.  Thomas Goodman and Paul Delmontagne each had homers with Paul Zalud lofting a sacrifice fly in the seventh.

Lomascolo was dominate early.  He posted seven of his 11 strikeouts in the first three innings.  He would allow three runs on six hits with a walk and those 11 strikeouts to improve to 4-1.  Ryan McClintock (Matthews, NC/Providence HS) and Michael Trombino (Boca Raton, FL/Calvary Academy) each tossed an inning of scoreless relief.

Furr homered and doubled to go along with the four RBI.  Julio Zubillaga (China Grove, NC/Carson HS) also had two hits.

The teams are set to complete the three-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
