Baseball Gets Back Into Win Column at Anderson
ANDERSON, SC -- Garrett Furr (Gold Hill, NC/Mt. Pleasant HS) drove in four runs to lead 26th-ranked Catawba to a 10-3 win over host Anderson in South Atlantic Conference baseball action on Friday night at Memorial Stadium. The Catawba Indians improve to 11-4 overall and 3-4 in the SAC, while the Trojans 5-13 and 1-6.
The Indians jumped out quickly with three runs in the first and three more in the second. Furr had a RBI in each three-run outburst, while Craig Brooks (Monroe, NC/Parkwood HS) capped the third with a two-run homer.
Furr added a two-run homer of his own fifth as Catawba stretch its lead to 8-0. Anderson picked up single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings before Nick Lomascolo (Mooresville, NC/Lake Norman HS) with the big lead. Thomas Goodman and Paul Delmontagne each had homers with Paul Zalud lofting a sacrifice fly in the seventh.
Lomascolo was dominate early. He posted seven of his 11 strikeouts in the first three innings. He would allow three runs on six hits with a walk and those 11 strikeouts to improve to 4-1. Ryan McClintock (Matthews, NC/Providence HS) and Michael Trombino (Boca Raton, FL/Calvary Academy) each tossed an inning of scoreless relief.
Furr homered and doubled to go along with the four RBI. Julio Zubillaga (China Grove, NC/Carson HS) also had two hits.
The teams are set to complete the three-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
