Women's Lacrosse Picks Up Season's First Win
SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba claimed its first win of the year in women’s lacrosse action with a 19-4 victory over visiting Siena Heights on Wednesday afternoon at Shuford Stadium. The Catawba Indians improve to 1-4, while the Saints fall to 0-4.
Catawba got four goals apiece from Ebony Mills (Harrison, ME/Oxford Hills HS/Mount Ida), Chelsey Bauer (Tampa, FL/Plant HS) and Meredith Jones (Barnesville, MD/St. John's Catholic HS) in cruising to the win. The Lady Indians scored the first five goals with Jones and Mills each picking up two of those tallies.
The Lady Indians went on to lead 10-3 at the break. Siena Heights scored the opening goal of the second half from Stephanie Gonzalez, but Catawba would shutout the Saints from there and scored the game’s final nine goals.
Catawba held a 37-12 edge in shots and won 20 of 25 draw controls. Bethany Davis (Salisbury, MD/Parkside HS) collected six saves. Alessia Vagnini and Vanessa Wallace split halves in goal for Siena Heights. Vagnini made two saves and Wallace had three stops.
Catawba will travels to Mount Olive on March 14 for its next match at 4 p.m.
