Baseball Wins Fifth Straight With 11-3 Victory Over Wingate

WINGATE, NC -- Catawba claimed a non-league over Wingate by an 11-3 count in baseball action on Tuesday night at Christopher Stadium and Plyler Field.   The 14th-ranked Catawba Indians improve to 18-5 with their fifth straight win.  The Bulldogs fall to 14-12.

Leading 1-0 after an inning, Catawba broke through with four runs in the second.  Danny Parisi (Shirley, NC/Longwood HS) doubled home two runs and Dylan Richardson (Randleman, NC/Randleman HS/Appalachian St.) singled home two more as the Indians jumped to a 5-0 lead.

Wingate got a run  in the second on a Jason Hunter single and two in the third to cut the gap to 5-3.  Thomas Spitz doubled home a run and later scored on a passed ball.  Catawba came right back with two of its own in the fourth.  Ethan Satterfield (Madison, NC/McMichael HS) brought home a pair of runs as his single to left was misplayed into a two-base error.

Cameron Cockman (Pleasant Garden, NC/SE Guilford HS/UNC Wilmington) and two relievers kept Wingate silent after the third.  Cockman tossed six innings, allowing three runs (two earned) off six hits with five strikeouts to improve to 3-2 on the year.  Graham Lawing (Huntersville, NC/NW Cabarrus HS/Lynchburg) pitched two scoreless innings and Will Johnson (Faith, NC/E. Rowan HS) finished things off in the ninth.

Catawba capped the scoring in the eighth, scoring three times with two outs following a catcher's interference call.  Chris Dula (Troutman, NC/S. Iredell HS) singled home a run and Garrett Furr (Gold Hill, NC/Mt. Pleasant HS) singled home two more.

Paul Kronenfeld (Greensboro, NC/Woodberry Forest HS/Georgia Tech) had three hits to lead a 13-hit attack by the Indians.  Keaton Hawks (Lexington, NC/E. Davidson HS) had two hits and scored three runs.

Hunter had two of the eight Wingate hits.  The Bulldogs made five errors and allowed five unearned runs.
