Lomascola Sets Career Win Mark as Baseball Top LR

SALISBURY, NC -- Nick Lomascolo (Mooresville, NC/Lake Norman HS) recorded his 32nd career win to lead the Catawba baseball team to a 7-2 win over Lenoir-Rhyne.  With the win, Lomascolo claimed the all-time career wins mark for the school.  The Catawba Indians, ranked 14th in NCAA II, improve to 19-6 on the season and 9-4 in the South Atlantic Conference.  Lenoir-Rhyne falls to 9-18 and 4-9.

The Bears jumped in front in the second inning with an RBI double by David Martin which was followed up by a sacrifice fly by Frank Poerio.  Catawba would respond in the third with a three run inning.

Keaton Hawks (Lexington, NC/E. Davidson HS) started the rally with an RBI double off the right-center wall.  Hawks would move to third on a wild pitch that scored Cam Cockman (Pleasant Garden, NC/SE Guilford HS/UNC Wilmington) in the process.  Ethan Satterfield (Madison, NC/McMichael HS) would bring in Hawks with an infield single.

Catawba would get an insurance run in the fourth with another RBI hit by Hawks to bring in Craig Brooks (Monroe, NC/Parkwood HS).  The Indians would add three more in the seventh.

Lomascolo claimed the win after pitching eight innings giving up six hits and two runs.  He fanned 11 to move within six strikeouts from becoming the school’s all-time leader in that category.

Jared Carroll pitched just three and a third innings in taking the loss for the Bears.  He surrendered six hits, four runs and three walks.  Christian Hicks would replace Carroll to finish out the game for L-R.

Hawks finished the game going 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI.  Chris Dula (Troutman, NC/S. Iredell HS), Julio Zubillaga (China Grove, NC/Carson HS), and Jon Wallace (Salisbury, NC/NW Cabarrus/Lynchburg) each added two hits for the Tribe.

Catawba will return to action on Saturday for a double header with Lenoir-Rhyne at 1:00pm.
