Hawks' Five RBI Leads Baseball Past Kutztown
SALISBURY, NC -- Keaton Hawks (Lexington, NC/E. Davidson HS) collected five RBI as Catawba picked up a 9-5 win over Kutztown in baseball action on Monday afternoon at Newman Park. The Catawba Indians, ranked 15th in NCAA II, improve to 21-7, while the Bears fall to 6-4.
Dylan Richardson (Randleman, NC/Randleman HS/Appalachian St.) got things started for Catawba with a two-run single in the second. Hawks had a RBI groundout in the frame and Chris Dula (Troutman, NC/S. Iredell HS) delivered a RBI double.
Kutztown struck for three runs in the fourth. John Dockins (Cinnaminson, NJ) had a two-run double in the inning. Hawks got those runs right back for Catawba with a three-run homer in the bottom half.
The Bears scored again in the fifth on a double by Carson Baker (Lehman, PA), but Catawba erased another potential run at the plate to end the inning. Hawks got the run right back in the bottom half with a RBI single. Furr capped the Catawba scoring with a solo homer in the sixth.
Hawks, Furr, Richardson, Dula and Cameron Beard (Conover, NC/Bunker Hill HS) all had two hits for Catawba, who out-hit Kutztown 11-10. Matt Albaugh (Hatfield, PA) collected three hits for Kutztown and Brandon Martinez (Lansdale, PA) had two hits and two RBI.
Cam Cockman (Pleasant Garden, NC/SE Guilford HS/UNC Wilmington) picked up the win to improve to 4-2. He allowed four runs off nine hits with three strikeouts over six and two-thirds innings. Ryan McClintock (Matthews, NC/Providence HS) grabbed his fourth save with an inning and a third of hitless relief with a pair of strikeouts.
Catawba will host Shippensburg for a doubleheader on Tuesday beginning at 3 p.m.
