Jones Tallies Four Goals as Women's Lacrosse Falls at Guilford
GREENSBORO, NC -- E'leyna Garcia scored 10 goals to lead Guilford to a 22-10 win over visiting Catawba in women’s lacrosse action on Monday afternoon at the Armfield Athletic Center. The Quakers improve to 6-1, while the Catawba Indians fall to 2-6.
Catawba stayed close early and Alyssa Corace (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac HS) pulled the Lady Indians within 7-6 on her second goal with 12:28 left in the first half. Guilford took over from there, scoring the next three goals and closed the half on an 8-1 run to lead 15-7 at the break.
Guilford never let Catawba back into the contest, out-shooting the guests 42-18 and winning 26 of 33 draw controls. Eleanora Keene had five goals and won 14 draw controls, while Lily Colley tallied four goals and handed out five assists.
Meredith Jones (Barnesville, MD/St. John's Catholic HS) led Catawba with four goals and an assist. Corace and Chelsey Bauer (Tampa, FL/Plant HS) each had two goals and an assist, while Ebony Mills (Harrison, ME/Oxford Hills HS/Mount Ida) collected the other two Catawba goals. Bethany Davis (Salisbury, MD/Parkside HS) made a dozen saves.
Catawba travels to Myrtle Beach, SC, on Wednesday to take on Slippery Rock at 5 p.m.
