Lomascolo Grabs SAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week Honors
ROCK HILL, SC -- With the SAC baseball regular season having reached its midpoint, Catawba senior Nick Lomascolo (Mooresville, NC/Lake Norman HS) and Newberry freshman Bradley Nichols have earned this week’s conference awards. It was announced on Tuesday by the league office.
Lomascolo pitched eight solid innings on Friday against Lenoir-Rhyne, picking up his school-record 32nd career victory. The left-hander allowed two runs on six hits against the Bears while striking out 11.
The performance improved Lomascolo’s record to 6-1 on the season. He leads the conference with 59 strikeouts and ranks third with a 1.89 ERA. The Mooresville, N.C. native has a 6.56 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
Nichols earned a call-up from Newberry’s junior varsity squad prior to the Wolves’ weekend series with Lincoln Memorial and immediately made his mark. The designated hitter finished the series with 10 hits in 13 at bats for a .769 batting average. He also drew three walks, leading to a .812 on-base percentage.
Nichols had three or more hits in each game against LMU, including two doubles and two home runs. He also piled up eight RBI and scored eight runs. The Winter Springs, FL, native slugged at a 1.385 clip over the weekend.
