SALISBURY, NC -- Host Catawba and Shippensburg split a baseball doubleheader between a pair of nationally-ranked teams on Tuesday afternoon at Newman Park.  The Catawba Indians, ranked 18th in NCAA II, now stand at 22-8 after a 6-2 win in the opener.  The 12th-ranked Raiders won the nightcap 14-4 and are 13-4 on the year.

Catawba scored three times in the first inning to take a quick lead in the opener.  After an error to start the inning, Garrett Furr (Gold Hill, NC/Mt. Pleasant HS) got a run in on a ground out with the bases loaded for a 1-0 lead.  Julio Zubillaga (China Grove, NC/Carson HS) brought in a run on an infield single with Cameron Beard (Conover, NC/Bunker Hill HS) singling home the final run.

Shippensburg cut a 4-0 deficit in half with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings, but Catawba was able to answer those runs as Keaton Hawks (Lexington, NC/E. Davidson HS) and Chris Dula (Troutman, NC/S. Iredell HS) singled home runs.

John Tuttle (Kannapolis, NC/Brown HS) shook off a couple of bad outings to post the win.  He went five and a third innings, allowing two runs on four hits with four strikeouts.  He improved to 5-4.  Graham Lawing (Huntersville, NC/NW Cabarrus HS/Wilkes CC) got Tuttle out of trouble in the sixth and Ryan McClintock (Matthews, NC/Providence HS) closed out the game with a scoreless seventh inning.

Zubillaga and Ethan Satterfield (Madison, NC/McMichael HS) each had a pair of hits and drove in a run for the Indians.  Hawks and Dylan Richardson (Randleman, NC/Randleman HS/Appalachian St.) scored twice.  Michael Douglas scored both of the runs for the Raiders.

Shippensburg erased a 1-0 deficit with a big six-run third inning to take control of the nightcap.  The Raiders capitalized on a pair of Catawba errors Half of the runs scored with two outs, including two on a home run by Pat Kregeloh.  He added a three-run homer in the forth to push the Shippensburg lead to 10-1.

Catawba scored a pair of runs in the fourth on a two-run triple by Hawks and Dula hit a solo home run, his 10th of the year, in the fifth to get the Indians within 10-4.  Shippensburg answered right back with two runs in both the sixth and seventh frames for the final margin.

Kregeloh paced Shippensburg with his five RBI.  Simon Beloff had three hits, while Tyler Shover and Cody Kulp joined Kregeloh with two hits.  Shover had two RBI.  Rich Michaud earned his first win with five innings of work.  He allowed four runs on five hits over five innings.

Hawks and Dula each had two hits and two RBI for Catawba in the loss.  Sean Grant (Statesville, NC/W. Iredell HS) took the loss, although only one of the six runs he allowed over three innings were earned.

Catawba will travel to Carson-Newman this weekend for a league series that begins on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m.
