Women's Lacrosse Can't Overcome First-Half Deficit in Loss to Edinboro

SALISBURY, NC -- Edinboro pulled out to an 8-1 lead at the half and went on top host Catawba 15-7 in women’s lacrosse action on Friday afternoon at Shuford Stadium.  The Fighting Scots improve to 3-1, while the Catawba Indians fall to 2-8.

Meredith Jones (Barnesville, MD/St. John's Catholic HS) put Catawba on top with a goal just a minute and a half into the game, but Edinboro tallied the next nine goals to take control.  The Lady Indians tallied three goals in a five-minute stretch early in the second half to get within 10-4, but Edinboro wouldn't let Catawba any closer.

Shannon Rohrich scored four goals for the Fighting Scots, while Shelby Will, Alexandria DeReamer, Katie Magee and Rebecca Zajac each had two goals.  Zajac added a pair of assists.  Jones paced Catawba with three goals and Alyssa Corace (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac HS) tallied twice.

Edinboro held a 29-17 edge in shots and won 13 of 24 draw controls.  Bethany Davis (Salisbury, MD/Parkside HS) made nine saves for Catawba, while Autumn Held stopped six shots for Edinboro.

Catawba will host Chowan on Monday afternoon at 4 p.m.
