Women's Lacrosse Falls to Lenoir-Rhyne
SALISBURY, NC -- Lenoir-Rhyne got four goals from Kirsten Smith (Dunkirk, MD) and defeated host Catawba 18-5 in women’s lacrosse action on Wednesday night at Shuford Stadium. The Bears even their record at 5-5, while the Catawba Indians fall to 4-9.
Catawba scored the opening goal, the first of two goals from freshman Alyssa Corace (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac HS), at the 23:06 mark. Lenoir-Rhyne tied the game with 19:12 left in the half on a tally by Sarah Minick (Marietta, GA). The Bears went on to score three more goals over the next five minutes to grab a 4-1 lead. The Lady Indians cut the margin to 4-2 before L-R reeled off the final seven goals before the break.
The Lady Indians scored three of the first four goals to start the second half, but consecutive goals by Mary Minick (Marietta, GA) in a 30 second span stopped the Catawba rally. Mary Minick and Hayley Beattie (Lebanon, NJ) added three goals apiece for the Bears with Beattie collecting two assists.
Corace’s two goals led Catawba. Lenoir-Rhyne held a 43-13 edge in shots with Catawba’s Bethany Davis (Salisbury, MD/Parkside HS) making 16 saves. The Bears help force 35 Catawba turnovers and the Lady Indians were just 12-of-29 on clears.
Catawba travels to Young Harris on Saturday at 2 p.m.
