Cullop Named DSC Men's Lacrosse Player of Week
WINGATE, NC -- Catawba College senior midfield Tom Cullop (New Windsor, MD/S. Carroll HS) has been named the Deep South Conference Offensive Player of the Week, league officials announced Tuesday afternoon. University of Tampa sophomore midfield Trevor Calleja (Selden, NY) has been named the DSC Defensive Player of the Week, while Tampa’s Joey McMahan (Windermere, FL) is the Freshman of the Week.
Cullop led the Indians to a pair of conference wins last week, registering five goals and three assists in two contests. Cullop had a goal and two assists in Catawba’s 10-9 victory over Florida Southern. He piled up four goals and an assist in the 12-11 win over Rollins. Cullop had three goals in the first half against the Tars. He added three ground balls and three caused turnovers on the week for the Indians.
Calleja piled up 18 ground balls in two games for Tampa last week, leading the Spartans to a pair of victories. He also won 29-of-41 face-offs. Calleja won 19-of-23 face-offs in Tampa’s 13-9 victory over MIT, while collecting 13 ground balls and adding a man-down goal. He won 10-of-18 face-offs in the 13-11 DSC win at Lenoir-Rhyne.
McMahan had four goals in the two Tampa victories last week. He scored the first goal of the game in the 13-9 win over MIT. McMahan netted three goals in the conference victory at Lenoir-Rhyne. He added three ground balls on the week for the Spartans.
