Women's Tennis Takes 5-4 Win at Mars Hill, Men Fall 5-4
MARS HILL, NC -- The Catawba women's tennis team pulled out a tight 5-4 win at Mars Hill, while the men fell in a 5-4 match against the host Lions in South Atlantic Conference action on Sunday afternoon at the Hart Tennis Center. The Catawba Indian women improve to 15-8 overall and 5-4 in the SAC, while Mars Hill is 1-10 and 1-5. Catawba's men fell to 12-11 overall and 3-6 in the SAC, while the Lions are now 3-8 and 2-4.
The women's match came down to #4 singles with the match tied at 4-4. Olivia Myers (Lexington, NC/W. Davidson HS) won in straight sets without dropping a game to secure the winning point for the Lady Indians. The men's match was decided at #6 singles. Mars Hill's Zach High rallied from a set down, winning a second-set tiebreaker then the third set tiebreaker to get the win for the Lions. Jack Mordey (Leighton Buzzard, ENLAND/Tring School) and Mitchell McDonald (Wellington, NEW ZEALAND/Paraparamumu) won in both singles and double for Catawba.
Catawba has completed the regular season and will prepare for the conference tournament which begins on April 18 in Rock Hill, SC.
