WINGATE, NC -- Catawba College junior attack John Scheich (Waxhaw, NC/Weddington HS) has been named the Deep South Conference Offensive Player of the Week, league officials announced Monday afternoon. Florida Southern junior Dan Krispinsky (Ft. Myers, FL) has been named the Defensive Player of the Week, while Florida Southern’s Logan Muether (Hilliard, OH) earns Freshman of the Week honors.
Scheich piled up a school-record nine goals in Catawba’s 21-12 victory over Wingate on Friday. The nine goals are the most goals scored in a game by any player in the DSC this season. Scheich scored six of his nine goals in the second half as Catawba rallied from a 6-5 halftime deficit to win by nine goals. He also had an assist and four ground balls on the night.
Krispinsky won 34-of-48 face-offs for Tampa on the week, as the Spartans picked up a pair of huge DSC wins to make this week’s conference tournament. He started his week by winning 20-of-28 face-offs in Florida Southern’s 15-10 win at Florida Tech. The 20 face-off wins were a season high for Krispinsky as he won .714 percent of face-offs on the night while adding six ground balls and an assist. He had a .700 winning percentage on face-offs in the 13-5 victory at Saint Leo, winning 14-of-20 face-offs while adding four ground balls.
