Women's Lacrosse Comes Up Just Short Against Erskine
SALISBURY, NC -- Erskine scored four goals in the final 12 minutes to pull out a 13-10 win over host Catawba in women’s lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Shuford Stadium. The Flying Fleet improve to 6-11, while the Catawba Indians end their second season of competition at 5-10.
Meredith Jones Barnesville, MD/St. John's Catholic HS) had pulled Catawba within 9-8 with 16:46 remaining, but Samantha Burns scored consecutive goals to put Erskine up 11-8 with 7:46 remaining. Sarah Tibbits added another goal for the Flying Fleet with 3:24 to go for a 12-8 edge.
Burns had put Erskine up 7-4 lead in the first half, but Catawba was able to score three straight to tie the game at 7-7 on a goal from Ebony Mills (Harrison, ME/Oxford Hills HS/Mount Ida) just three minutes into the second half. Hillary Henry answered 30 seconds later and Erskine led the rest of the way.
Mills and Kim McConnery (Welland, Ontario, CANADA/Notre Dame/Monroe CC) each had three goals and an assist for Catawba. Jones had two goals, while Chelsey Bauer (Tampa, FL/Plant HS) had a goal and two assists. Bethany Davis (Salisbury, MD/Parkside HS) made nine saves in goal for Catawba.
Burns tallied five goals for Erskine, while Henry added three more. Van McKenzie and Kelly Dalziel each scored twice. Konstandena Brown collected 11 saves in goal for the Flying Fleet.
