Women's Basketball earns eighth straight win

SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba College earned its eighth straight win with a 76-60 victory over visiting Tusculum in South Atlantic Conference women’s basketball action at Goodman Gym on Wednesday night. The win improved the Lady Indians to 11-3 overall and 2-0 in the SAC, while Tusculum fell to 7-7 and 0-2.Junior Danyel Locklear (Pembroke, NC) paced Catawba with a near triple-double. The forward had 22 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. Catawba led 16-15 at the mid-point of the opening half, then went on a 8-1 run to open a 24-16 lead with 7:04 in the opening period. Catawba increased the lead 10 in the half’s final minute and led 32-24 at the break. Catawba led by 14 at 54-40 before a run by the Pioneers trimmed the margin to 64-56 with 1:18 left. Catawba would convert 10-of-12 free throws down the stretch to hold off Tusculum. Dorthell Little (Rockingham, NC) added 14 points and eight rebounds for Catawba, while Isiaette Darden (Wilson, NC) had 10 points off the bench. Candice Combs (Clayton, NC) led Tusculum with 16 points, while Candice Foster (Crossville, TN) had 14 and Whitley Campbell (Oak Ridge, TN) 10. Catawba connected on 44% of its shots, while Tusculum managed just 38% shooting and had 30 turnovers. The Lady Indians outscored Tusculum 25-11 off turnovers. #####
