Tennis Announces Seven Recruits
SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba College tennis coach, Jeff Childress, has announced seven student-athletes that will be joining the tennis program this upcoming season. Three will join the women’s team, while four have committed for the men’s squad.
The three women’s commitments are Caroline Graham (Salisbury, NC/Salisbury HS), Maddy Henderson (Mequon, WI/Divine Savior Holy Angels HS) and Faith McLean (Durham, NC/Southern Nash HS). Hunter Mitchell (Thomasville, NC/E. Davidson HS), Iago Montero Nunez (Lugo, SPAIN/IES da Terra Cha), Michael Patch (Great Missenden, ENGLAND/Dr. Challoners) and Brad Smethurst (Oakville, Ontario, CANADA/Abbey Park) are the newcomers on the men’s side.
Graham went 56-2 over her career at Salisbury High School. She earned all-conference honors and was a member of three state championship teams. Henderson played the top spot in both singles and doubles at Divine Savior Holy Angels. She was a four time individual state qualifier and helped the team to the state finals as a senior. McLean was an all-conference performer in both singles and doubles at Southern Nash High School. She was also team captain and MVP.
Mitchell was an all-state performer as a senior at East Davidson High School. He was a quarterfinalist in the 2A NCHSAA State Championships and was a two-time all-conference selection. Patch was captain of both the tennis and hockey teams at Dr. Challoners and made National Finals. Nunez played numerous junior tournaments and was the top player at the Club de Tenis Muimenta. Smethurst played #1 doubles for two years at Abbey Park High School.
