Countdown of Top Moments of 2012-13 Starts August 1
Starting tomorrow, August 1st, gocatawbaindians.com will count down 20 of the top moments of the 2012-13 athletic season. Check our website each weekday during August to see what moments made the list and where your top moment might rank.
Just to get things started here are a couple of honorable mention selections that just missed making the top 20. One comes from men’s soccer when they scored two late goals to top Barton 3-2 and the other was Elon Edwards tying a men’s basketball record with nine three-pointers against Anderson.
HM #1 – Men’s Soccer stuns Barton with late rally
Back on Sept. 8, 2012, Catawba trailed Barton at Frock Field 2-1 with 10 minutes left when a storm blew through Salisbury and halted the match for lightening. The teams waited through a 45 minute delay and when the action resumed, freshman Kenny Bonilla scored twice in a span of minute and a half to help Catawba pull out the win.
HM #2 – Elon Edwards cans nine three-pointers in loss at Anderson
In a game on Dec. 1, 2012, freshman Elon Edwards had a hot hand for the Indians. He opened the game by making his first seven three-point attempts, all in the first half, to help Catawba to a halftime lead. Edwards finished the game by hitting on 9-of-10 from long range as the Indians eventually fell in overtime.
