WINGATE, NC -- Wingate University got 28 points from senior guard Djuan Hankins (Roanoke, VA) and topped visiting Catawba 98-77 in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action Wednesday night at Cuddy Arena. The win lifts Wingate into a three-way tie for the league lead as the Bulldogs improve to 10-7 overall and 3-1 in the SAC. Catawba falls to 6-11 and 1-3.
The Bulldogs built a 43-36 at the half, thanks to an 8-2 run over the final three minutes, and started the second stanza with a 10-2 run, capped with a jumper by junior guard Titus Miller (Spartanburg, SC) at the 16:59 mark. With Miller's hoop, the Bulldogs took a 53-38 lead. Catawba would get no closer than 10 the rest of the way. The final margin was Wingate's largest lead of the evening.
Hankins was one of five Bulldogs in double figures. Miller had 23 points, including a game-best 10-of-12 free throws. Senior center Kristian Jensen (Apex, NC) had a career-high 14 points, while junior guard Keenan Dunn (Charlotte, NC) and senior center Njogou Bah (Banjoul, The Gambia) added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
