No. 6: Sebastian Holmberg swims to All-America honors at NCAA II Swimming Championships
On March 7, 2013 at the NCAA II Swimming Championships, freshman Sebastian Holmberg earned All-America honors as he earned a spot in the final of the 100 fly. He set a new school record in the process with a time of 47.88.
BIRMINGHAM, AL -- Catawba freshman Sebastian Holmberg (Akersberga, SWEDEN) finished fifth in the 100 fly final at the 2013 NCAA II Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday night at the Birmingham CrossPlex. He earns All-America honors in the process.
In the final, Holmberg set a school record with his time of 47.88, almost a half a second faster than his previous record. He set a 50 fly school record with an opening split of 21.92. He led the final after 75 yards, but could not hold on during the final length of the pool. Marcus Schlesinger, of Ouachita, won in a time of 47.54. Ivan Nechunaev (47.73), of Grand Canyon, was second, Stanislav Kuzmin (47.84), of Drury, third and Michael Griffith (47.85), of Grand Valley, fourth.
Magnus Lundgren (Alvsjo, SWEDEN) was 20th in the prelim with a time of 49.49. He had swam in the 50 free on Wednesday and posted the 26th best time at 20.63 which was the third fastest time in Catawba history. Holmberg will swim in the 100 back event on Friday and he will join Lundgren for the 100 free on Saturday.
