Women's Basketball's struggles at PC continue in 77-64 lossCLINTON, SC – Presbyterian College continued its mastery of Catawba on its home floor with a 77-64 win in South Atlantic Conference women’s basketball action on Wednesday night at Templeton Center. It marked the seventh consecutive win for Presbyterian at home over Catawba and 13th in 14 meetings all time in Clinton, SC. Catawba, the top-ranked team in the region, had its 11-game win streak snapped and falls to 14-4 overall and 5-1 in the SAC. Presbyterian improves to 7-10 and 3-3. Catawba would take a brief 11-10 lead on a layin by Lynn Morancie (Houston, TX) at the 14:20 mark, but Presbyterian then reeled off 17 straight points over the next four minutes to gain a commanding 27-11 edge with 10:08 left. The Blue Hose would lead by as many as 17 in the opening half and took a 45-32 lead at the break. Presbyterian did a great deal of its damage at the line, cashing in on 17-of-18 opportunities, while Catawba made only four of its nine attempts. The Lady Indians tried to mount a rally to start the second half, cutting the deficit to 48-44 with 13:16 remaining, but could get no closer. Catawba was down 58-54 with 9:10 to go, but Presbyterian responded with a 12-0 run to gain a 70-54 advantage with 5:25 left. Billie Haskins (Greensboro, GA) scored 24 points to lead the Blue Hose, collecting 16 in the opening half. Bonnie Werner (Kennesaw, GA) followed with 16 points, while Rebecca Wassinger (Laurens, SC) tallied a dozen. Morancie led Catawba with 14 points, while Dorthell Little (Rockingham, NC) added 11. Little eclipsed the 1,000-point mark in her collegiate career on the night. Danyel Locklear (Pembroke, NC) posted a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds, while Ashley Cox (Richmond, VA) also added 10 points. Presbyterian shot 48% from the field and held a 45-34 edge on the board. The Blue Hose also made 25 of its 32 tries at the line, while Catawba made only 9-of-15 from the line and shot just 38% from the field. #####
