Women's Soccer Settles For 2-2 Draw at Anderson
ANDERSON, SC -- Host Anderson got a late equalizer and the Trojans and Catawba battled to a 2-2 draw in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Trojan Stadium. The Catawba Indians now stand at 1-2-1 overall and 0-0-1 in the SAC. Anderson is 0-2-1 and 0-0-1.
Catawba was seconds away from claiming the win, but Anderson got a corner kick in the final minute of regulation. The initial chance was saved, but Madison Taylor was able to put home the equalizer with just 25 seconds left. Neither team could break the tie in overtime.
After a scoreless first half, the Trojans went on top just two minutes into the second half on a tally from Faith Johannes. Catawba, which dominated the shot total, pulled even on the hour as Juliana Conte (Hampton, Ontario, CANADA/Holy Trinity Catholic HS) fired in a shot off a feed from Sophie Waller (Watford, ENGLAND/St. Michael's Catholic HS). The Lady Indians went on top in the 81st minute as Waller's corner kick found the head of Emily Auwarter (Shamong, NJ/Seneca HS), who delivered to make the score 2-1.
Catawba finished with a 22-9 edge in shots and took eight corner to five for the Trojans. Anderson was whistled offsides nine times. Kaitlyn Neipp recorded nine saves in goal for Anderson. Bethany Davis (Salisbury, MD/Parkside HS) came on in the second half for Catawba and posted two saves. Angelica Pawlowski (Las Vegas, NV/Bishop Gorman HS) had one save in the opening 45 minutes for the Lady Indians.
Catawba will host Mount Olive on Wednesday in a 5 p.m. kickoff at Frock Field.
