SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba swept past visiting Coker in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action on Saturday afternoon at Goodman Gym.  The Catawba Indians posted a dozen blocks in grabbing a 25-12, 25-15, 25-20 win.  Catawba improves to 2-4 overall and 2-2 in the SAC, while the Cobras fall to 3-9 and 0-4.

Freshman Bri Howard (Graham, NC/S. Alamance HS) collected six kills with five blocks, while senior Emily Richardson ((Salem, VA/Salem HS) added five kills and six blocks to pace the Lady Indians.  Libero McKenzie Garrison (Newton, NC/Maiden HS) recorded 15 digs, Alex Hopper (Madison, NC/McMichael HS) served three aces and setter Kaytee Frabota (Sterling Heights, MI/Henry Ford II HS) had five kills, 21 assists and seven digs.

Brittney Pink led Coker with six kills and added nine digs.  Libero Mindy Morris posted 15 digs and served a pair of aces, while Celia Duggan had four kills and a pair of blocks for the Cobras.

Catawba got off quickly, scoring the opening six points of the first set.  The lead grew to 12-3 after an ace by Meredith Furr (Concord, NC/Cox Mill HS).  The Lady Indians continued to stretch the lead, going up 20-10 on a kill from Richardson and 24-10 following a Frabotta kill.  A service error by Coker ended the set.

The Lady Indians started fast in set two as well.  Kills from Furr and Frabotta put Catawba on top 9-3.  An 8-0 run that was capped by a kill from Haley Lanier (Burgaw, NC/Pender Co. HS) gave the Lady Indians an 18-6 edge.  Coker rallied within 18-14 as Morris served a pair of aces in a 6-0 run, but Catawba was able to respond by scoring seven of the last eight points.

Coker led early in the third set, going up 7-3 after a kill from Duggan.  Catawba came right back as Hopper had a kill and three aces in a run that gave the Lady Indians a 9-7 lead.  Richardson started and ended a 5-0 Catawba run with kills for a 16-11 edge.  Coker got within 20-17 on an ace from Hannah Vadakin, but the Lady Indians stayed in front the rest of the way.

Catawba next travels to Tusculum on Friday for a 7 p.m. match with the Pioneers.
