Waller Scores in Women's Soccer Loss to Carson-Newman
SALISBURY, NC -- Carson-Newman scored a pair of second-half goals and claimed a 3-1 win over host Catawba in South Atlantic Conference women’s soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Frock Field. The win lifts the Eagles to 1-2-1 overall and 1-1 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 2-3-1 and 0-1-1.
The Eagles surrendered the opening goal then pulled even just before the half on the first of two goals from Sidnee Edwards. The first came in the 44th minute and the second put Carson-Newman on top in the 57th minute. Gabrielle Gianeselli added a final goal in the 67th minute.
Sophie Waller (Watford, ENGLAND/St. Michael’s Catholic HS) had put Catawba on top with her goal in the 27th minute. Alex Twombly (Carlsbad, CA/La Costa Canyon HS) assisted on the goal. Danna Stringle assisted on the final two Carson-Newman goals. Susann Kneifel had the assist on the first Eagle tally.
Catawba dominated the shot total, holding a 22-5 edge, but C-N keeper Tiarna McKenna posted 11 saves.
Catawba travels to Wingate on Wednesday for a 5 p.m. match.
