Wingate Blanks Women's Soccer 3-0
WINGATE, NC – The Catawba women’s soccer team fell to South Atlantic Conference rival Wingate 3-0 on Wednesday evening. Wingate’s Taryn Grivois lead the Bulldog attack netting two goals in the second half. Catawba falls to 2-4-1 on the season and 0-2-1 in conference play. Wingate improved to 5-0-3 and 2-0-1, respectively.
The Bulldogs first got on the board late in the first half as Brittany Smith sprinted past the Catawba defense to take a pass from teammate Naomi Matley before putting the ball in the net past Catawba goalkeeper, Bethany Davis (Salisbury, MD/Parkside HS).
Just under ten minutes into the second half, Grivois put her first goal in the net off of a deflected pass from Chelsey Horan. With just under a minute left in the game Lindsay Hyde passed a ball into Grivois who tallied her second goal of the game to put Wingate up 3-0
Both teams took seven shots in the game with both putting three on target. Ashlyn Hardie protected the Wingate goal in the win, stopping all three shots that she faced. Davis was unsuccessful in recording a save.
The Lady Indians will return to action on Saturday as they travel to South Atlantic Conference opponent Newberry. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:30 pm.
