Catawba Defeats Coker 2-1 Behind Kirkman And Presnell Goals

HARTSVILLE, SC -- Catawba College defeated South Atlantic Conference host Coker College 2-1 in women’s soccer action on Saturday afternoon at the Coker Soccer Field.  With the win the Catawba Lady Indians improve to 5-4-1 on the season and 2-2-1in the conference.  Coker falls to 2-8 and 0-5.

Midway through the first half Catawba’s Mary Kirkman (Burlington, NC/Williams) put the Indians up 1-0 in the 34th minute on a pass from Sophie Waller (Watford, ENGLAND/St. Michael’s Catholic). 

Coker would respond in the second half with a tying goal from Jalynn Fortt.  In the 72nd minute Karen Presnell (Salisbury, NC/Salisbury) would score the winning goal for Catawba.  Waller assisted for a second time on the day with the game winner.

Catawba outshot Coker 19-8 in the contest as well as leading in corner shots 9-2.  Coker goalkeeper, Lizz Morris, recorded 15 saves on the day while Catawba’s Angelica Pawlowski (Las Vegas, NV/Bishop Gorman HS) saved five in the win. 

The Lady Indians return to Frock Field on Wednesday as they host South Atlantic Conference opponent, Queens.  Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
