Catawba Takes Down Lenoir-Rhyne 1-0 off Bonilla Goal
SALISBURY, NC – Kenny Bonilla’s (Salisbury, NC/Salisbury) early second half goal proved to be enough as the Catawba College Indians defeated visiting Lenoir-Rhyne University 1-0 on Wednesday night at Frock Field in South Atlantic Conference action. With the win Catawba improves to 8-4-1 on the season and 4-4-1 in conference play. The Bears fall to 7-7-1 and 2-5-1, respectively.
In the first half the teams went into the break scoreless. Despite Catawba leading in shots 5-3, the Bears controlled the corner kicks 4-0.
In the 53rd minute of the game, Bonilla attacked through three Lenoir-Rhyne defenders from the top of the box before beating goalie, Stefan Dill, to the lower left of the net for the game winner.
Dill finished the night recording six saves on Catawba’s 12 shots. Frankie Cardelle (Salisbury, NC/Salisbury/NC Central) tallied the shutout for the Tribe for the fourth time this season. Cardelle saved three of Lenoir-Rhyne’s five shots in the win.
Catawba will travel to SAC opponent Lincoln Memorial on Saturday for a 3:30 pm kickoff.
