Second Half Goal Proves Costly in 1-0 Loss to LMU
HARROGATE, TN -- Catawba College falls 1-0 to Lincoln Memorial University in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action on Saturday at the LMU Soccer Complex. With the loss, the Catawba Lady Indians, fall to 9-6-1 overall and 5-4-1 in South Atlantic Conference play. The Railsplitters improved to 8-6-1 on the season and 6-4 in league play.
The match was scoreless after one period despite the Indians mounting a 10-4 shot advantage over that span.
The match remained knotted in a 0-0 stalemate beyond the first 25 minutes of the second half until freshman Michelle Hunter broke through at the 73:17 mark, heading home a Josefin Hedstrom corner to put the Lady Railsplitters on top, 1-0.
Catawba more than tripled LMU's shot output with a 22-7 advantage. Juliana Conte led the Indians with five shots while Athena Bless notched four attempts in the match. Hunter paced Lincoln Memorial with three shots for the game.
Catawba netminder Bethany Davis suffered the loss after allowing the lone goal of the match with five saves in 90 minutes of work. Kayla Stephens recorded the shutout for the Railsplitters with four saves of her own.
The Lady Indians will travel to nearby Misenheimer to take on Pfeiffer University on Wednesday at 3 pm.
