Season Ends For Men's Soccer With Tourney Loss to Top-Seeded Queens
CHARLOTTE, NC -- Top-seeded Queens defeated visiting Catawba 2-0 in the first round of the 2013 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Men's Soccer Tournament on Tuesday night at Dickson Field. The Royals improve to 14-3 and advance to Friday's semifinals in Rock Hill, SC. The Catawba Indians end their season at 8-8-1.
Queens got in front early as Erick Suarez scored off a low cross in front of the goal from Thiago Andrade in the sixth minute. The Royals got a second goal on the hour when Andrade fired home a rebound from a penalty kick. Catawba's Frankie Cardelle (Salisbury, NC/Salisbury HS/NC Central) had saved Andrade's attempt from the spot, but could not deny the second chance.
The Royals held an 18-16 edge in total shots, but Catawba but eight on goal to just six from Queens. Cardelle recorded four saves, including the penalty kick try. Montrell Morgan collected seven saves for the Royals. Queens had five corner kicks to four for the Indians.
