Men's Basketball Can't Keep Up With Hot Shooting Anderson
SALISBURY, NC -- Anderson used a strong second half to pull away from host Catawba, posting a 78-55 win in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Goodman Gym. The Trojans up their record to 9-3 overall and 4-2 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 2-8 and 2-4.
CJ Gleaton (Anderson, SC) led four double-figure scorers for the Trojans with 16 points. Chandler Hash (Greer, SC) knocked down 15 points, while Myson Jones (Aiken, SC) added 12 points and eight assists. Chris Ross (Spartanburg, SC) had 10 points.
Catawba was led by Tyrece Little (Greenville, NC/Rose HS) with 15 points. Kijuan Arrington (Newport News, VA/Denbigh HS/Henry CC) collected 13 points and eight rebounds with Elon Edwards (Greenville, NC/Rose HS) scoring 11 and handing out five assists.
The teams battled through a tight first half with Anderson taking a 27-24 lead at the break. Catawba stayed close in the opening minutes of the second before the Trojans began to heat up and pull away. Anderson capped a 13-0 run with three-pointers from Tony Dargan (Irmo, SC) and Hash to lead 60-40 with 8:24 to go and Catawba ever got closer than 15 the rest of the way.
Catawba never found its shooting touch, hitting on just 30.6% (19-of-62) for the game. Anderson made only 42% in the first half, but hit on 59% in the second half and connected on 7-of-8 three-pointers.
Catawba will host Newberry on Wednesday night at 8 p.m.
