BREVARD, NC -- The Catawba College men’s basketball team held on in the final minutes to survive the Brevard Tornados 85-79 in South Atlantic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Boshamer Gymnasium.  With the win the Indians improve to 4-8 on the season and 4-4 in conference and mark the first time this season of capturing back-to-back wins.  Brevard falls to 3-9 and 3-5 respectively with the loss.

Catawba went back and forth with Brevard through most of the first half until late in the period.  The Indians jumped to a ten point lead, however when Catawba compiled an 8-2 run to close out the final two minutes of the half.

In the second half, Brevard would rally twice but could not overcome to take the lead.  The first run came about 13:23 left to go in the game with Catawba leading by eight.  In just over a minute of play Brevard had closed the gap to just one point.  Tyrece Little (Greenville, NC/Rose) led Catawba’s charge to extend the lead back to 11.  In the 13-3 run for Catawba, Little scored six of the team’s points.

Brevard would chip away at Catawba’s lead yet again, to within one point behind with two minutes remaining.  Catawba would be limited to free throw shooting for the rest of the game but Little would go 2-for-2 and Kijuan Arrington (Newport News, VA/Denbigh/Henry CC) would seal the win going 5-for-6 to give Catawba the six point victory.

Six Catawba players scored in double digit figures while out rebounding the Tornados 40-29 in the victory.  Little came just one rebound shy of a double-double scoring 17 points and grabbing 9 rebounds.  Arrington added 18 points of his own including five rebounds.

As a team Catawba shot 30-of-58 (51.7%) from the field while Brevard went 28-of-65 (43.1%).  Arrington and Little led the Indians to a 20-of-23 (87.0%) day from the free throw line.  Catawba on the year averages 58.1% from the line.  In the game Arrington shot 10-for-11 from the charity strip and Little followed going 7-for-8.  Brevard went 15-of-20 for 75.0% from the free throw line.
