Women's Basketball Suffers Tough Overtime Loss to LMU

SALISBURY, NC -- Lincoln Memorial senior Kalasia Green (Laveen, AZ) sank a three-pointer with six seconds remaining to give the visiting Lady Railsplitters a 72-71 overtime win over Catawba in South Atlantic Conference women’s basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Goodman Gym.  The win improves LMU to 9-7 overall and 8-4 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 8-8 and 6-6.

Catawba had led the entire overtime after Antoinette McPhail (Timmonsville,SC/Darlington HS/Paine) sank a jumper at the 4:29 mark.  The Lady Indians led 70-64 with 2:21 remaining, but Lincoln Memorial rallied as Green made three free throws and Samantha Satterlee (Junction City, KS) two more to make it 70-69 with 22 ticks on the clock.

Zhaquondalee Greer (Greensboro, NC/Academy at Smith/Charleston Southern) made one of two at the line for Catawba with 14 seconds remaining then Green hit the three-pointer to put LMU on top.  Catawba had one last chance, but Chloe Bully (Hannut, BELGUIM/KOL Landen) was forced to take a contested shot in traffic that came up short.

After surrendering the opening basket, Catawba went on top on a Mallary Clay (Lansing, NC/Ashe Co. HS) layup at the 18:35 mark and held the lead until the final seconds of regulation.  A Greer jumper with four minutes left in the half gave the Lady Indians their largest lead at 29-12.  LMU trimmed the deficit to 34-24 by the break.

The Lady Splitters pulled within three midway through the second half, but Catawba responded with an 11-2 run to lead by a dozen at 58-46 with five minutes left.  Down eight, Aisjah Roan (Louisville, KY) scored three straight baskets for LMU to cut the Catawba lead to 60-58 with 1:21 remaining.

LMU would take the lead on a three-pointer by Haley Nelson (White Pine, TN) with 28 seconds remaining and added a free throw by Roan after a missed shot by Catawba.  Roan missed on the second attempt and Bully forced overtime with a runner on the baseline as time expired.

Roan finished with 23 points for LMU to lead all scorers.  Satterlee added 13 points and eight rebounds off the bench, while Green also reached double figures with 12 points.  LMU shot 68% in the second half, but were only 1-of-8 in overtime.

Catawba put five players in double figures, led by Greer with 12.  McPhail, Bully and Jada Huntley (Indian Trail, NC/Porter Ridge HS) each had 11 and Emma Ucinski (Atlanta, GA/St. Pius X HS) tossed in 10 off the bench.
