Women's Basketball rallies past LivingstoneSALISBURY, NC – Catawba College rallied seven-point deficit in the final seven and a half minutes to defeat cross-town foe Livingstone 73-66 in women’s basketball action at New Trent Gym on Monday night. Catawba outscored the hosts 23-9 over the final 7:12 to improve to 18-5 overall. Livingstone falls to 8-17. Catawba led most of the first half, using a 10-0 run to grab an early 14-4 edge. Livingstone would fight back to take a 19-18 advantage with 7:09 left before another Lady Indians run gave Catawba a 31-20 lead with 3:45 in the half. The Lady Blue Bears would close to within 37-32 at the break. Livingstone scored the first six points of the second half to take a 38-37 lead, then saw Catawba go back on top at 45-40 with 14:58 left. The Lady Blue Bears would use a 15-2 run to establish their largest lead at 55-47 with nine minutes remaining. Down 57-50, Dorthell Little (Rockingham, NC) hit a pair of free throws which began a 10-0 run for Catawba to regain the lead at 60-57 on a three-point play by Christina Carmon (Stafford, VA) with 5:36 remaining. A layin by Kautelza Richards (Walterboro, SC) cut the margin to one, but Ashley Cox (Richmond, VA) connected on a three-pointer and Lynn Morancie (Houston, TX) added a layup for a 65-59 lead. Livingstone forced two turnovers and a missed shot to again close to within a point at 65-64 with 2:39 left, but Richards missed the second of two free throws and Danyel Locklear (Pembroke, NC) broke the Catawba drought with 2:17 left for a 67064 lead. Catawba converted all six free throw tries in the final 1:40 to secure the win. The Lady Indians came up big on the line, making 22-of-23 attempts, while Livingstone was just 11-of-19. Catawba also held a 43-35 edge on the boards. Locklear led Catawba, posting a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Morancie added 14 points and five steals, while Cox had 12 and Little 10. Sherree Gillespie (Salisbury, NC) had 25 points and nine rebounds in a losing effort for Livingstone. Richards and Angela Thomas (Swainsboro, GA) each had 15. #####
