CHARLOTTE, NC -- The Catawba College swim teams continued their strong showing on the second day of Blue Mountain Conference Championships held on Saturday at the Mecklenburg Aquatic Center. The Lady Indians held on to their seventh place finish from Friday while the men leaped up two spots into eighth. The Wingate University women currently hold the top spot with 976.5 points while the Queens men are first with 978.5
Catawba continued to break records on the day setting two more during this meet. The first new record came in the men’s 400-yard IM when Catawba’s Finn Furstenwerth finished in a time of 3:59.65. The previous school record was also held by Furstenwerth at 4:02.25. The swim marked a fourth place finish which was one hundredth of a second behind Wingate’s Oystein Fjeldberg.
The Lady Indians picked up their fifth record breaking performance during the meet in the 800-yard freestyle. With a fifth place time of 7:43.54 the team of Katia Kruglov, Nadine Brockmann, Filippa Wallin and Anna Barnes set the school record for the event by over fifteen seconds. The swim qualified as an NCAA B-cut which was the first ever for the Lady Indians in this event.
Several of the swimmers recorded their lifetime bests on the day. Kruglov, Amy Cujas, Dominic Brus, Jevgenij Gamper, and Andrew McCollister each set a lifetime best during their respective events.
