Little's 1,000th Point and Sampah's Career-High 19 Points are Highlights for Men's Baskebtall in Loss to Coker
SALISBURY, NC -- Coker pulled away in the second half to post an 81-59 win over host Catawba in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action on Monday night at Goodman Gym. The Cobras put six players in double figures in improving to 12-10 overall and 9-9 in the SAC. The Catawba Indians fall to 6-16 and 6-12.
Julian Nelson led a balanced Cobra attack with 15 points with Larry Felder recording a double-double of 14 points and 14 rebounds. Trey Marshall collected 13 points and Eren Moses 11. Errick Bethel and Donte Samuels added 10 points each.
Julian Sampah (Greensboro, NC/Greensboro Day) led Catawba with a career-high 19 points. He hit on 7-of-10 shots and went 5-of-6 at the line while adding seven rebounds. Kijuan Arrington (Newport News, VA/Denbigh HS/Henry CC) followed with 11 points. Tyrece Little (Greenville, NC/Rose HS) had eight points, six rebounds and six blocks. Little went over the 1,000 point mark for his career in the loss.
Coker scored the final five points of the first half to grab a 35-27 lead at the break. Catawba stayed close despite hitting just 25% (9-of-36) from the field. The Indians continued to struggle in the second half and Coker began to pull away.
The key run by the Cobras came six minutes into the second half when they built a 46-42 lead to 64-44 with 7:56 left. The margin reached 29 points in the final minutes.
Coker shot 39% for the game, but canned 48% in the second half. The Cobras went 7-of-21 from behind the arc, making six in the final half. Catawba went 0-for-10 from three-point range.
Catawba will play host to Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
