Corace and Jones Score as Women's Lacrosse Falls to Saint Leo
SALISBURY, NC -- Joanna Chadwick scored three first-half goals as visiting Saint Leo posted a 14-2 win over Catawba in women's lacrosse action on Saturday morning at Shuford Stadium. The Lions improve to 1-0 with the opening win, while the Catawba Indians fall to 0-2.
Chadwick scored the first two goals of the game in the opening 1:37 to spark the Lions. Alyssa Corace (Mahopac, NY/Mahopec HS) got Catawba within a goal at the 26:18 mark, but Saint Leo scored the six straight goals to lead 8-1. Meredith Jones (Barnesville, MD/St. John’s Catholic HS) scored right before the half to make the margin 8-2 at the break.
Saint Leo added four goals in the opening 10 minutes of the second half to stretch the margin to 12-2. The Lions held a 28-9 edge in shots. Bethany Davis (Salisbury, MD/Parkside HS) recorded 11 saves for Catawba.
Catawba will host Lees-McRae at Shuford Stadium on Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m.
