Rimer's ninth-inning single lifts Baseball to 3-2 win

SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba College scored twice in the bottom of the ninth to rally for a 3-2 win over visiting Belmont Abbey in baseball action at Newman Park on Wednesday night. Aaron Rimer (Salisbury, NC) singled home Chad Hill (Bennett, NC) with two outs to plate the game-winner. Catawba improves to 6-4, while Belmont Abbey falls to 3-8. Spence Southard (Greensboro, NC) had led off the ninth with a solo home run to tie the score after the Tribe entered the final frame down 2-1. Belmont Abbey had built a 2-0 lead, scoring an unearned run in the first and adding another in the second on a single by Josh Pennington (Belmont, NC). Catawba got one run back in the fourth on a two-out, RBI double by Hill. Brian Hatley (Salisbury, NC) earned the win in relief for Catawba, tossing two perfect innings and striking out the six in the ninth. Jaymie Russ (Concord, NC) took the loss for the Crusaders. Southard and Hill each had three hits to pace the Tribe attack. Derek Brown (Mastic Beach, NY) had two hits for Belmont Abbey. #####
