Rutherford's Second Day 68 Leads Catawba to Seventh Place Finish at Irish Creek Intercollegiate
KANNAPOLIS, NC -- The Catawba College men’s golf team finished in seventh at the Irish Creek Intercollegiate which concluded on Tuesday afternoon. Eighteen teams are competed at the 7,099 yards, par-71 Irish Creek Golf Course hosted by Pfeiffer University. Newberry College took the team award with a 586 score. Barton, Erskine and Limestone each finished just three strokes behind.
The Indians finished the tournament with a 611 total, cutting thirteen strokes from the first day. Matt Hardman finished just outside the top five with a 145 sixth place. Tyler Rutherford caught on fire on Tuesday with a second day round of 68. Rutherford finished the tournament with a twelfth place 147. Charlotte’s Thomas Rowland took medalist honors after winning a playoff with Lenoir-Rhyne’s John White. Rowland and White finished shooting 143.
The Catawba men return to action on Monday and Tuesday as they host the Richard Rendleman Invitational at the Country Club of Salisbury.
