Catawba Splits at Coker
HARTSVILLE, SC -- The Catawba College tennis teams split with South Atlantic Conference foe Coker on Thursday afternoon at the Coker Tennis Courts. The Lady Indians defeated the Coker women by a score of 9-0 while the Catawba men fell 1-8. With the win the Catawba women improved to 8-8 on the season and 1-2 in the SAC. The Catawba men fell to 7-8 overall and 0-3 in the conference. For Coker the women dropped to 0-5 and 0-2 and the men improved to 2-2 and 2-0, respectively.
In women’s action the Lady Indians struck down the Cobras with relative ease. Catawba’s Alli Prior and Olivia Myers did not surrender a game all day long in both singles and doubles. Lauren Sledd followed suit by giving up just two games in her pair of wins.
It was a different story for the Catawba men in their loss. Coker started strong by sweeping doubles by scores of 8-2, 8-5, and 8-3. The trend continued in singles action as Coker won the first five spots. Aaron Vanhorenbeck grabbed the lone point for the Indians by defeating Zach Grooms 7-5 in each set.
Catawba returns to action on Monday as the Indians host Lees-McRae. The match is set to start at 3pm.
