Scheich Named SAC Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week
ROCK HILL, SC -- Catawba's John Scheich (Waxhaw, NC/Weddington HS) has been named the South Atlantic Conference Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week for games played Feb. 24 through March 2. Patrick Murphy, of Queens, earned defensive honors. It was released by the league office on Monday.
Scheich led Catawba's offensive attack last week, totaling eight goals and five assists as the Indians went 1-1 as a team.
On Wednesday, Scheich recorded three goals on eight shots in a 9-8 Catawba loss to Saint Leo. Then on Saturday, he posted five goals and five assists as the Indians earned a conference win over Brevard, 17-6.
The senior also picked up nine ground balls and totaled 18 shots in the two contests. His 16 points on the season rank fourth in the SAC.
Murphy was a force for Queens in wins over Belmont Abbey and Florida Tech, picking up a total of 10 ground balls and causing five turnovers.
Murphy opened the week with five ground balls, a caused turnover and a goal in Queens' 14-9 victory over Belmont Abbey on Wednesday. He followed that with five goals, four forced turnovers and another score on Saturday in an 8-7 win over Florida Tech.
On the season, Murphy is tied for the conference lead in caused turnovers with 12, and is tied for fourth with 18 ground balls.
