Women's Lacrosse Drops Non-Conference Tilt With Notre Dame College
SALISBURY, NC -- Notre Dame College scored the first 11 goals and went on to post an 18-6 win over host Catawba in women’s lacrosse action on Monday afternoon at Shuford Stadium. The Falcons improve to 1-2, while the Catawba Indians fall to 2-3.
Madalyn Dewling (Atlanta, GA) scored four goals to lead NDC with Kristen Hull (Okemos, MI) adding three goals and two assists. Allison Merten (North Canton, OH) also scored three goals. Ebony Mills (Harrison, ME/Oxford Hills HS/Mount Ida) scored three goals for Catawba. Alyssa Corace (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac HS) collected two goals.
Merten scored just 1:15 into the contest for Notre Dame College and Hull added two for a 3-0 edge after four minutes. Dewling scored three of the next four goals to make it 7-0 with 19:44 left in the half.
Catawba got on the scoreboard in the final minutes of the opening half. Juliana Conte (Hampton, Ontario, CANADA/Holy Trinity Catholic HS) tallied at the 2:22 mark and Mills with just 11 seconds before the break to make it 11-2. Corace scored the first goal of the second half to bring the Lady Indians within 11-3.
The Falcons scored two goals to get the 10-goal margin back and went on to tally five more after a Mills goal for an 18-4 lead. Corace and Mills closed out the scoring.
Notre Dame College held a 31-12 edge in shots. Lauren Ragsdale (Alpharetta, GA) started in goal for the Falcons and made one save over 49 minutes. Bethany Davis (Salisbury, MD/Parkside HS) had nine saves for Catawba.
Catawba will travel to Wingate on Saturday to face the Bulldogs in a conference game at 1 p.m.
