Back Home at Newman Park After Three Weeks, Baseball Bangs Out Season-High 18 Hits to Top Anderson

SALISBURY, NC -- Senior Paul Kronenfeld (Greensboro, NC/Woodberry Forest HS/Georgia Tech) had three hits, including a home run, to pace host Catawba past Anderson 10-5 in South Atlantic Conference baseball action on Friday night at Newman Park.  The Catawba Indians up their record to 12-11 overall and 7-5 in the SAC, while the Trojans fall to 9-16 and 7-6.

Blake Houston (Mt. Ulla, NC/S. Rowan HS) and Ethan Satterfield (Madison, NC/McMichael HS) also had three hits in the win for the Indians as Catawba rapped out a season-high 18 hits.  Houston and Kronenfeld both scored three times.

Steven Cooper and David Jones each had two hits for Anderson.  Cooper had a three-run homer and Jonathan Zalud hit a solo home run.

Catawba took the lead for good with a pair of runs in the first.  Houston scored on a sacrifice fly by Satterfield and Kronenfeld scored on a double by T.J. Wharton (Lutz, FL/Bishop McLaughlin HS/Greensboro Tech).  Zalud cut the lead in half with his homer in the second, but Kronenfeld had a solo shot of his own in the fifth to give the Indians a 4-1 edge.

Anderson loaded the bases in the sixth, but Michael Trombino (Boca Raton, FL/Calvary Academy) got a strikeout and a groundout to strand those runners.  The Indians then broke the game open with three runs in the bottom half of the frame.  After an out, the next six Catawba batters reached base with Houston, Kronenfeld and Keaton Hawks (Lexington, NC/E. Davidson HS) singling home the runs.

The Indians padded its lead in the eighth to go up 10-1.  Anderson pulled four runs back in the ninth, three on the homer by Cooper.

Craig Brooks (Monroe, NC/Parkwood HS) pitched into the sixth to grab the win and improve to 4-2.  He gave up just one run off four hits.  Brooks walked three and fanned six and delivered 112 pitches.  Trombino threw two and two-thirds of scoreless relief.  Spencer Earle (1-4) took the loss for the Trojans.

The teams will complete the weekend series with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
