Catawba Tennis Teams Split Against Carson Newman and Tusculum
The Catawba tennis teams split a pair of road matches between Carson Newman and Tusculum in South Atlantic Conference play. The Lady Indians first defeated Carson Newman on Friday by a score of 5-4 and then fell to Tusculum 8-1. The Catawba men also beat Carson Newman 5-4 while dropping their match with Tusculum 7-2. Catawba’s women now stand at 10-10 on the year and 2-4 in the SAC while the men are 8-11 and 1-5.
In women’s action Liz Renteria claimed the only point for Catawba against Tusculum. Renteria went 2-0 on the weekend in singles action and split in doubles action. Sophomore Lauren Sledd was the only other Lady Indians to claim multiple victories getting a singles and doubles win against the Eagles.
For the men, the duo of Matthew Nicholson and Michael Patch we the only team to claim wins on both days. Nicholson and Patch also got wins in singles action on Friday. Jack Mordey and Iago Montero Nunez also got singles wins during the weekend.
Catawba returns to the courts on Tuesday to host SAC opponent Newberry at 2pm.
