Women's Lacrosse Falls at Converse 7-5
SPARTANBURG, SC -- Converse used an early 4-0 run to get past visiting Catawba 7-5 in women’s lacrosse action on Wednesday night. The Valkyries improve to 7-6, while the Catawba Indians fall to 4-6.
Ebony Mills (Harrison, ME/Oxford Hills HS/Mount Ida) gave Catawba an early 1-0 lead, but Converse scored the next four goals and led the rest of the way. Mills scored late in the first half to cut the Lady Indian deficit to 5-3 at the break. Converse extended the lead to 7-3 with 18:37 to play before Catawba scored twice in the final seven minutes.
Mills led Catawba with two goals. Amelia Helm tallied three times for Converse.
The Valkyries held an 18-14 edge in shots and won nine of the 14 draw controls. Three of Catawba's goal came from free-position shots.
Bethany Davis (Salisbury, MD/Parkside HS) had eight saves in goal for Catawba. Alex Gurecki had seven stops for Converse.
Catawba will host Young Harris at Shuford Stadium on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
